6 Must-Visit Farmers Markets in Central Virginia Before They Close for Winter!

I've spotlighted six gems across the region for 2025 since the season is coming to an end. Now, tote in hand, let's stock up!

 

  •  Staunton Farmers' Market (Staunton): Kick off in the Wharf Parking Lot (2 W. Johnson St.) every Saturday—7 a.m.-noon April-Sept, 8 a.m.-noon Oct-Nov (except the last saturday of Nov). Dive into heirloom veggies, meats, and baked goods from 50+ vendors. SNAP/WIC accepted; perfect for fall root crops.  Quick win: Grab honey for that first cozy tea.
  •  Charlottesville City Market (Charlottesville): Saturdays 8 a.m.-1 p.m. April-Nov at 100 E. Water St., closing post-Thanksgiving. Over 100 stalls of seasonal produce, artisan breads, and cheeses—producer-only for max local impact. Virginia Fresh Match doubles SNAP up to $50. 
  •  The Farmers Market at IX Art Park (Charlottesville): Year-round Saturdays—9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct-Mar, 8 a.m.-noon April-Sept—at 522 2nd St. SE (no full close, but lighter winter). Veggies, eggs, and value-adds like pickles amid art and tunes. SNAP perks apply. 
  •  Scottsville Farmers Market at Scottsville Pavilion (Scottsville): Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. starting April 12 through mid-Nov at 125 Fleet St. Seasonal fruits, eggs, meats, baked goods, and artisan wares under the pavilion—lively with live music. Great for herbs and jams. 
  •  RVA Big Market (Richmond): Saturdays 8 a.m.-noon May-Oct (shifts to 9 a.m. Nov-Apr, no close) at Bryan Park (4301 Hermitage Rd.). Handmade goods, produce, and hot eats from 40 vendors—urban oasis with music. SNAP/WIC friendly. 
  •  Birdhouse Farmers Market (Richmond): Year-round at 1507 Grayland Ave., 23220—in-person Tuesdays 3-6:30 p.m. May-Nov (rain or shine, with online ordering); online only Dec-April. Producer veggies, cheeses, and prepared foods—SNAP accepted and part of Virginia Fresh Match.
